CO2 Lasers (Carbon Dioxide Lasers)
CO2 lasers have been used in laser skin resurfacing longer than any other type of laser. These lasers are ablative meaning they remove the top layer of skin. CO2 lasers typically are used in aggressive treatments and have the longest recovery time.

How Much Do Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatments Cost?

learn about plastic surgery financingThe American Society of Plastic Surgery indicates that the average plastic surgeon’s fee for laser skin resurfacing was $2,222 in 2007. However, that price will vary depending on many factors such as extent of the treatment, the number of sessions required, and the area of the country you live in. Use of anesthesia can also impact the price. Laser skin rejuvenation typically requires only topical anesthesia that the surgeon includes in the package price. If you want general anesthesia either because you require very deep treatment or are nervous about the procedure, you will incur the cost of the general anesthesia and the services of the anesthetist.

Other Costs Related To Laser Peels:

In addition to the procedure cost, you may need to purchase ointments, dressings, special washes, and, possibly, prescription painkillers or antibiotics if your treatment is a very deep one. Your plastic surgeon can help you to estimate how much these items will cost, but generally they are not expensive relative to the cost of the procedure and may even be included in the treatment price.

Will My Health Insurance Cover The Cost of The Laser Treatment?

Health insurance does not usually cover laser skin resurfacing because it is an elective cosmetic procedure. However, many doctors participate in consumer finance programs that allow you to pay for the procedure over time. Ask your surgeon if this may be an option for you.
